New zealand used to be a paradise for a lot of people as it is pretty, peaceful and safe. However, the situation is changing due to current crime situation. There are all kinds of crime such as dishonesty offence, drug offences, violent crime, propety damage and abuse, sexual offence and so on. The unfortunate situation is the figure is rising every year.
A woman was charge by police for killing a baby. The baby is only 3 years old and he is very lovely. His parents are very sad because of the death. Nobody know the reason why the lady conduct such an action, however, I hope that she will be punished and at the same time, parent should pay more attention to protect their children so that this kind of case will not happen again.
All kinds of people are likely to conduct illegally, such as man and woman, teenage, adults and old people. Not only those with low education level, but also those with high education rate, such as teachers. Teachers have received high education and they are the educator, if they set up bad or wrong samples, let's imagin what our world will be?
Besides those crimes conducted by adults, by observation, teenages' crime figure has been rising in recent years. For example, it is reported in NZ herald that 4 15-year-old boys are charged for stealing furniture. Teenages are growing adults who are not mature both physically and phychologically, so they are easily affected by other people; once they form some bad ideas, they may conduct more illegal actions when they grow up. Therefore, society should pay more attention to this group of people. More ethics education should be carried in schools, and parents should always care for their children to minimise their illegal conducts.
In addition, some teenages conducted a number of crimes which need special intelligence and technology. For example, NZ police charge a 17-year-boy for conducting globe cyble crime. His behavior is very shocking because what he did beyond most adults ability. His conduction infiltrated computers worldwide and brought down the system at a U.S. university, who caused damage of US$19 million. They are really very smart boys, however, they conducted in the wrong way. But if they can make correct use of their intelligence and carry out some correct behaviors, both the families and the society will get benefits.
High percentage crime is very harmful to the country and soceity, because it will affect the coutry's reputation in the world. As we all know, New Zealad is famous as a peaceful country, education and tourism are one of the main industries. But if it is not safe enough, people abroad will not come here to study and travel, also domestic resedence will try to immigrate to other countries, which are really bad for the country's short-term and long-term benefits.
Act MP David Garrett pointed out in his recent speaking that it is quite crucial to improve this situation. If the situation remains, this country will become worse and worse to live in. Hope that all people can work together to fight against crime and establish a peaceful and safe place for all of us to live in.

Teenagers comiting crime has gone up so much this year..not only are they causing problems like getting into fights, robbing store, beatimg up the elderly ad also having car races and pretty much gettin themselves killed. They are not only giving new zealand a bad reputation, making our country look bad to tourists but also creating this fear in families that their neighbourhoods are no longer safe,
回复删除from a personal view, it SUCKS!! .. my parents pretty much wont let me go anywhere without my brothers =S ,
Also the majority of of these younf offenders are pacific islanders.. they pretty much give Islanders a bad name and so we are back to this whole stereotype thing. Not all islanders are like this. AND it pretty much sucks to have a couple of idiots who think robbing people or getting into fights is cool, give the majority a bad name.
Better education is the key, we have to teach people the right value when they are still young. Instead of focusing on youth crime, we should look at the bigger picture like fixing New Zealand justice system.
回复删除Even for our police force, we heard all about the police gang rape a woman inside the police station; I saw three policemen beating a unarm teenage outside New World the other day, they were using their sticks and all-aiming for the teenager’s head, so much for “using minimum force”.
There are two important ways to reduce youth crime: education and justice system. Education includes education in the school and in family as well, especially the later. First, presents should take responsibilities for their own behaviors which heavily impact on their children’s growth; second, parents should teach their children what’s right and what’s wrong since they are little. The more important is that parents should be responsible for what their children done; this is related to the point about the justice system.
回复删除Currently, NZ law for youth crime is quite tolerant. Once I had been to a youth court with my friend who had been stolen more than 30,000 dollars in different currencies. Because of the security camera at his home, the police arrested 4 teenagers in the next day, but the money all gone. At the court, the young criminal got strong supporters including his family member, friend, social worker and legal assistant lawyer whereas the victim only had his wife and me. I couldn’t see any shame or guilty on the parent or the teenager’s face, the teenager looked like even more relaxed and cheerful than the victim. Two of them were the 3rd and 4th times to be arrested by the police. One policeman was really anger with them and said “if I had the right I will lock you in the prison forever”. Because they were all under 17 and had no income so the court had nothing to do with them, only sent them for community work, and by law, their parents had no responsibilities to pay the money back on behalf of their children. A tougher law on youth crime would be more effective to decrease teenage crime and this should also include legal duty for their parents so that parents would pay more attention to what their children do.
Young people are the future of the country. It’s a really matter for whole society to care about them.
I totally agree with you all. Crime brings a series of social problems to the society and it will affect all of us.Education and justice system are good ways to improve the situation.
回复删除But compared with the above two ways, I personally think that the former way is more suitable for young people. They are young and they are easy to change, if with correct way of leading, I'm sure that they can develop in the right way.
I read some interesting things on how careful environmental design can help to prevent crimes like personal assault and vandalism.
回复删除People are usually less likely to commit crime if they are (or think they may be) being watched.
Conversely people are likely to feel safer if they think someone is ‘looking out for them.’
Crime prevention can be achieved by security cameras and the presence of security personnel. However it can also be achieved by designing buildings to overlook streets and public spaces, ensuring that planting does not grow to obscure the view or provide hiding places for offenders, providing good standards of lighting ensuring that there is plenty of activity etc.
We have to fight crime from every angle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still interested in the topic of young crime and the justice system. Education is indeed a good way to prevent young people becoming criminals, however, there is no any education which could eventually avoid crime, and therefore, an effective justice system would be a good lesson for teenagers after they have done something wrong. As I said in the case above, some of the teenager’s criminals had done the same thing for 3 or 4 times because of the tolerant justice systems in which they got benefits much more than suffering for what they did, no punishment, no lesson, it could in fact encourage them to commit the crime again.
回复删除A tougher law is not simply a punishment to young criminals, more important, it would be a warning for those who may come to cross the bottom line of the law when education is failed to them. Moreover, with the development of science and technology and the progress of society, it is necessary to adjust current justice system in order to adapt the changing environment, as the sample you pointed out that the “cyber crime” of the teenager.
